Terms of service

The terms this website and our garage door services are provided under: how estimates work, what the price includes, what we do and do not promise about.

  • In effect October 25, 2026
  • Last updated October 25, 2026

What these terms cover

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and AMG Garage Door Expert ("we", "us", "our") for two things: your use of our website at amggaragedoorexpert.com (the "Site"), and the garage door repair, replacement, installation and inspection services we perform at your home or business (the "Services"). They are written in plain English so that a homeowner can read them without a lawyer. Where a word has a special meaning we define it where it first appears.

Nothing in these Terms takes away any right you have under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act or any other New Jersey or federal consumer protection law, and nothing in these Terms limits our responsibility in any way that New Jersey law does not allow. If any sentence in these Terms conflicts with your rights under New Jersey law, New Jersey law wins and the rest of these Terms still apply.

By requesting an estimate, booking a visit, or letting us do work, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not book with us.

About us

AMG Garage Door Expert is a garage door service company serving homes and businesses in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties, New Jersey. We repair and replace springs, cables and rollers, repair openers, install new doors and openers, and perform safety inspections. All work is done at your location. We have no storefront and we sell no goods online.

We are a garage door service company. We do not perform construction, structural repair, roofing, framing, plumbing, electrical work or mold remediation. If your situation needs any of those, we will tell you and you will need to hire the right licensed or registered trade.

Estimates

How estimates work

You can request an estimate through the estimate form on the Site, and you can ask for a visit on a particular day through the Book a visit form on the Site, which a person will call you to confirm, or through the call back request in the chat helper. You can also call the number on this page. We aim to send a written estimate the same day for requests received during the day, and by the next business day for requests received late or overnight. An estimate is our best assessment of the price based on what you tell us and any photos you send. It is free and you are under no obligation.

What the price includes

The estimate states the work to be done (for example a spring pair replacement, a cable and roller set, an opener repair or a new door installation), the parts, and the price. The price includes labor, the parts listed and the equipment needed to do the work. It does not include work you add on the day, which we will price and confirm with you before we do it.

Sales tax

New Jersey treats some garage door work as a capital improvement to real property and some work as a taxable repair. We say on your estimate which applies and whether tax is added. Where a service is taxable, New Jersey sales tax is added at the rate in effect on the date of service; where it is exempt, we charge no tax on it.

When the price can change

The estimate is based on what we can see and what you tell us. If, on arrival, the door or the hardware is different from what was described (for example a cracked track, a jamb or header that has shifted, a door heavier than its opener is rated for, or a spring size that turns out to be custom), we will explain the difference and give you a revised price before we start. You can decline the revised price and we will leave with no charge for the visit. If we sell you additional work at your home for 25 dollars or more, whether a revised price or an add on, federal law gives you three business days to cancel that additional work, and we will give you a written notice explaining how.

Booking and access

Scheduling

We work by appointment, any hour of the day, including evenings and weekends. When you book we will confirm the date and an arrival window by phone, text (with your consent) or email.

Cancellations and rescheduling

You can cancel or reschedule at no charge by calling or texting us at least 24 hours before the appointment. If you cancel with less notice, or we arrive and cannot get in, we may charge a trip fee to cover the wasted visit. We will tell you the amount of any trip fee when you book, and we will never charge one we did not tell you about in advance. If we have to cancel, we will tell you as early as we can, offer the next available time, and charge nothing for the missed appointment.

What we need from you on the day

So that we can do the job safely and well, please:

  • Be present, or have an adult over 18 present, to let us in and to walk through the work with us at the start and end.
  • Keep the driveway and the approach clear enough for our truck to reach the garage, and keep vehicles out of the driveway while the work is under way.
  • Keep pets and children out of the garage while we work, and away from the door until we have finished and tested it.
  • Tell us anything we should know before we start: previous repairs and who did them, when the springs and opener were last replaced, whether the door has been operated with a known fault, and whether anyone in the household has lost the remote or keys we should know about.
  • Provide access to the garage and to an electrical outlet, which our tools and the opener need.
  • Leave the door alone once we have tagged it as out of service. A door with a broken spring or a slipped cable should not be run, by anyone, for any reason.

The work

How we work

We diagnose before we replace. The visit starts with the door run by hand and checked against the system it hangs in: springs and their cycle wear, cables and drums, rollers and tracks, the opener and its force settings, the sensors and the seal. We will tell you what failed, what we recommend, and what each option costs, and we will not push a replacement where a repair will serve you properly.

Springs are replaced as a pair when the wear calls for it, because a matched pair carries the door evenly and the older mate of a new spring is a job waiting to be booked twice. Springs, cables and everything under tension are worked on only by our technicians, with the door secured. We ask that no one in the household attempt spring or cable work, and we will say the same in person.

Parts

We use parts selected to match the door and opener they go on: spring wire size and cycle rating matched to the door's weight, rollers, cables and hardware matched to the system, and opener parts matched to the opener model. The manufacturer's warranty terms that come with a part or an opener are passed on to you, and we will tell you what they cover.

What repair can and cannot do

Repair restores a door to working order. It cannot make a bent panel new, reverse rust that has eaten a section, or turn a worn opener into a new one. Some openers with stripped gears or failed boards past their parts life are due for replacement rather than repair, and we will say so instead of selling you a repair that does not last. We will tell you at the walk through if we think a result cannot be promised, and we will not charge you for a part we do not believe will solve the problem.

Pre existing conditions

We are not responsible for conditions that existed before we arrived, including a track bent by a vehicle strike before we got there, wood rot in the jamb or header the door hangs from, a slab that has dropped or heaved, damage from earlier repairs, or a door that has been run for months against a known fault. We will point out anything we notice at the start and note it on the job record.

Emergency and after hours work

An emergency visit, at any hour, is for making the door safe and, where the parts are on the truck, working again the same visit. Some jobs need a part we do not carry at that hour, so an emergency visit may be a stabilization first and a scheduled return to finish. We will say which is which before we start, and the price of each is agreed with you before the work.

Payment

Payment is due when the work is finished on the day of service unless we agreed otherwise in writing. We accept the payment methods stated on your estimate. Card payments are taken by a card reader whose processor handles your card details; we never store full card numbers. We do not take payments through the Site. If an invoice is not paid when due we may recover the reasonable costs of collecting it that a New Jersey court awards.

If you are not satisfied

If you are not happy with the result, tell us within seven days of the service. If the problem is something our work can address, we will come back and put it right at no charge. If the problem is a condition we warned you about at the walk through, a return visit will not change it, and we will say so plainly. This promise is in addition to, not instead of, any rights you have under New Jersey law.

Our responsibility to you

If we damage your property through our own carelessness, we will repair it or pay for its repair or replacement. Tell us about any damage you believe we caused as soon as you notice it and within seven days of the service so that we can inspect it while the cause can still be established. Telling us later does not take away any claim you have under New Jersey law; it only makes the cause harder to establish.

We are not responsible for the pre existing conditions described above, for damage caused by information you did not give us when asked, or for a door that has been operated against our advice between the estimate and the visit. We are responsible for the losses New Jersey law makes us responsible for, and we do not try to limit that.

Nothing in this section limits any right you have under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, the New Jersey Truth in Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act, or any other law that gives you rights that cannot be waived.

Using the Site

What the Site is for

The Site describes our Services, lets you request an estimate, and gives general information about caring for a garage door and its opener. The information is offered in good faith from our own experience and is not a guarantee of any result on your door. Nothing on the Site is an instruction to work on springs, cables or anything else under tension, and you should never treat it as one.

Content and trademarks

The text, photos, logo and design of the Site belong to us or are used with permission. Photos of customers' homes appear with those customers' permission. You may view and print pages for your own use in dealing with us. You may not copy our photos or text for another business, present them as your own, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you.

Acceptable use

Please do not use the estimate form or the chat helper to send spam, abusive messages, or content that belongs to someone else; do not try to interfere with the Site or its hosting; and do not upload photos of people, documents or anything you do not have the right to share. We may block traffic that abuses the Site.

Reviews and photos you send us

If you send us a photo of the work at your home and tell us we may use it, you give us permission to publish it on the Site, on our social media pages and in our advertising, without your name or anything that identifies the house from the outside, until you tell us to stop. If you send us a review or a comment and tell us we may use it, the same applies, with your first name and town only. You can withdraw that permission at any time. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle photographs.

Links to other sites

The Site links to phone and email apps, and to pages that help with a question, such as a manufacturer's manual page. We do not control those services and their terms apply when you use them.

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use the Site. Our Accessibility page explains the standard we work to and how to reach us if something is not working for you.

Text messages and calls

We contact you about your estimate and appointment by the method you chose. We send text messages only with your express consent and marketing texts only with your separate express written consent. You can stop texts at any time by replying STOP. The full program terms, including message frequency and how to get help, are on our SMS and Call Consent page.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who sees it and how long we keep it. It is part of these Terms.

Disputes

These Terms and any dispute about our Services are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. If we have a disagreement, we ask that you contact us first so that we can try to fix it. If we cannot resolve it, either of us may bring a claim in the Superior Court of New Jersey, including its Small Claims Section, in the county where the work was done. These Terms do not require you to arbitrate, do not stop you from joining with other customers in a claim, and do not shorten the time New Jersey law gives you to bring a claim.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The version in effect on the day you book applies to that job. When we change these Terms we change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
